The short answer: Google+. Since the launch of Google+ in the summer of 2011, there’s been a lot of discussion about whether or not the service has been an effective channel for marketers. There is one thing everyone can agree on: Google+ is a great tool for boosting SEO on Google searches.
According to a Searchmetrics study, Google +1’s are the number one ranking factor in Google search results. The reason for this is social networks are used by real people, so search engines place a big emphasis on social indicators like +1’s and Facebook shares.
How To Grow Your Google+ Following
The Chicken and Rice Guys, a popular food truck company in Boston, leveraged their existing networks on Facebook and Twitter and asked fans and followers to go over to their Google+ page.
“We have good followings on Facebook and Twitter, but wanted to build our Google+ following to help improve our SEO. One of the top ways people find us is through Google, and whether it’s a new customer or potential caterer, we need to be there when people are searching for us," said Ian So, CEO and Co-Owner/Founder.
The Power of a Perk
Once on Google+, Chicken and Rice asked people to follow and +1, and then rewarded them with an offer for a dollar off their next meal:
“All it took was a very clear call to action with a small coupon, and we were able to grow our following and our email database. This definitely helps the chances that people will see our posts in Google's search results in the future” said So.
A Small Offer Goes a Long Way
In total, the Chicken and Rice Guys grew their following by 406% and increased +1’s by 232% as a result of the campaign with Privy.
They also collected 199 new email addresses in just six days, which is proof that as a marketer, sometimes all it takes is a small offer to get a consumer to take an action. We’re proud to showcase another great Privy case study of a local business taking advantage of Google+ for SEO.
